Dan L. Sas is the founder, owner, ballet master, director, and choreographer for SAS School of Dance. Dan teaches all levels of Ballet in the Russian Vaganova Method, and teaches Character Dance and Modern Dance. Dan was born in Dej, Romania, to parents who were both folklore dancers, his mom a gymnast and his dad a musician. Dan left home at 9 years old to enroll in the School of Choreography in Cluj, Romania. After 9 years of dedication and hard work, studying ballet and academics, Dan graduated in 1978. He served 18 months in the military and then pursued a career as a ballet dancer. Dan was hired by the Romanian Opera House in Cluj, Romania, and after only 6 months, was advanced to Soloist and then Principal dancer. For the next 15 years, Dan performed as Principal dancer in many countries across Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Canada, and the US. While he performed for the Opera House, Dan also taught ballet at the School of Choreography in Cluj, and choreographed and directed performances for the school, as well. Dan was the first choreographer in Romania to produce Ballet Don Quixote with only students. No professional dancers were used and it was a total success. Today, Dan continues this tradition at his own school in New Fairfield, CT. He recently produced and staged Winter Fantasy Ballet, based upon The Nutcracker; Satra–A Gypsy Story, an original ballet by Dan Sas; Dr. Coppelius, based upon Ballet Coppelia; Grand Pas Classique from Ballet Paquita; Ballet Don Quixote; and, Pas Des Quatre, all with only elementary thru high school age children. Dan's upcoming projects include Peter and the Wolf, La Bayadere Grand Pas, Le Corsaire Grand Pas, and future large-scale productions of Ballet Phantom of the Opera and Ballet Les Miserables. In addition to teaching at his own school, Dan teaches ballet and choreographs for The Conservatory of Dance in Wilton, CT; he teaches Character Dance at The Hartt School-Hartford University in Hartford, CT; he teaches Master Classes for the Connecticut Ballet Company in Stamford, CT; and, Dan is a Judge for Celebration Talent Competition, a nationwide dance competition organization. Dan lives in New Fairfield, CT, with his wife Maria and has three children Julia, Daniel, and Dana with her husband Andrea. Dan is pursuing his lifelong dream of teaching, choreographing and inspiring students in the beautiful art of dance.
